And now, music reviews from the December 1993 issue of Zillions magazine.
Blind Melon - Blind Melon
"It's a different kind of music," said Beth, "not like all those love songs with soothing voices that put you to sleep." For Thor, "the highlight of this album is Shannon Hoon's whiny-but-enjoyable voice." On a scale of 0 to 10, Bill gave it a 5, "pretty cool." Gus disagreed: "It sounds like it was recorded by a group of people who never played together. Blind Melon should have called themselves Deaf Melon."
John Mellencamp - Human Wheels
"Mellencamp is successfully keeping alive an old style of music with an appealing touch of modern rock mixed in," said Stefie. "He has put a lot of heart and talent into this album." While Christopher praised the title song "Human Wheels," he found other tunes less inspired: "The album seems to sag at times - a lot of times."
Mariah Carey - Music Box
David recommended this album for people who like slow ballads. "It has excellent lyrics and spirit," added Karen. Andrea found the songs "good and relaxing," but griped "they're all about love and faith, which gets repetitive." Dannah agreed: "The album needs more variety." "Carey's voice is spectacular," said Jason, "but don't expect to get up and dance."
