listen now, to my tale of woe.

So I was overclocking the p2 last night and got it so cranked it wouldn't POST. So I "simply" jumpered the BIOS and fixed it to boot again. Win2k didn't like how it saw no boot drives, so I set all 4 IDE channels to "auto" instead of "none". It still didn't see the boot drive so I backed into 98. That saw no hardware (its pnp database was cleared) so I had no video, sound or anything, and to get them I needed the CD to work, and it didn't either. Crap, I thought. I hate repairing 2k. But I did, after finding a CD, and it promptly made the problem worse. After a "successful" repair, 2k would try to get to graphics mode and reboot. Screw MS. I'm installing BeOS. Well I found my Be5 free cd, only to find that those nice folks at Be decided every possible candidate for BeOS was already running windows. Well, I wasn't. Or hardly. So I booted to DOS, copied the .exe to the drive, booted to win98, ran the setup, made a boot floppy, and 10 minutes later I was staring at my 9 workspaces in BeOS5. Nice. So after finding it was damn-near impossible to mount network drives on the thing, I futzed around finding software and learning BeBash.

Well, obviously just having 2 futzed windows installs and a somewhat flaky BeOS is no way to run a computer. So, I thought, wouldn't it be cool to throw SuSE 7.3 on? Wouldn't it? I'm formatting anyway. I'll just pop online and start an .iso download.
It's never that easy, is it? SuSE doesn't really do .iso versions, though I found plenty of mirrors of huge directories of binaries and crap that I don't know what-all do do with. Useless. I'd have gotten RedHat but their download section is OFFLINE. What CRAP. You're the biggest Linux company in the world and your website is down? Kinda doesn't make me want to use your products.

So now I'm getting PhatLinux, which was kind enough to get a fast TuCows hosting and put everything in one .zip thank god. Hopefully I can get some help. Any lunix gurus kind enough to pay me a visit tonight?
