MAKE SOME NOISE!!!
Sep. 3rd, 2002 01:09 amW00T Bumbershoot r0x. Bumber-w00t. Right. I'm a bit loopy right now. Maybe begin at the beginning? Sure.
Lee ditched. Poor guy missed out. Graham, Shane and I made it into Memorial Stadium just in time for the Minus Five, which were diggable. Then... Wilco. Mmmmm. I have a setlist around here somewhere even. They were easily as good as Iexpected wanted them to be. You'll have to excuse my hero worship here, but Wilco is like the Aaron Sprinkle of bands. They make a record and every song is like, "of course. If I were a talented musical genius, thats' exactly what I would play." That's so rare for me, so when a band does it they get all my attention.
So that was tight, I'll try and make a more better review of sorts when I find that setlist. Oh, did I mention I got to meet them? Yeah, they did a signing and I got my YHF autographed. Kickass. They're like the nicest band possible too, which is always a bonus.
So then it was Jerrrrrry Cantrellllll, for your feature time travel presentation. It's like being in 1996, only with less flannel and no Layne Staley. It's nice to know grungers never die, they just play festivals.
Then it was off to Minnies, where I won the last chicken parmesan sandwich in the restaurant, and Graham and Shane had to console themselves with burgers. I win again! Go me! :) I enjoyed it enough for the both of them.
So we headed back to the grounds and decided to see the 1 Reel stuff, little 45-minute amalgamated viginettes on film. This was a good idea, unfortunately we failed to anticipate the ridiculous line, so we spent like an hour waiting to get into Intiman. I think it was worth it though, I'd never seen anything like that and there were some very fresh voices. Memorable: "Unfurled" and "My Summer Vacation", both about Sept 11 and its repercussions, and "Populi", and amazing peice of motion work commisioned by the Seahawks stadium and featuring hundreds of manlike figures going all over the state and being filmed in an odd stop-motion manner that was just insanely cool.
That finished around 9:00 and we headed to the Sky Church to catch the Glaude effect. An opener DJ was spinning and Graham and Shane wussed out after 10 minutes. Their loss. Glaude came on and the crowd completely lost it. There was breakin' and bumpin' and strippin' and glow sticks and yellin' and screamin' and circles and endless endless builds until you couldn't see straight the beat was hittin' you so hard. IT RULED. The guy is a master on 4 turntables, playin with his chin and scratchin behind his back and workin the crowd I mean it was incredible. The venue was money too, with the huge trippy video screen in the background and strobes and motion lights everywhere, it was like something out of a movie. I even got my ticket signed.
So one helluva 12 hours. Now, I get to sleep for about 4 hours and go to work tomorrow, sore and tired and hung over. SO WORTH IT.
