Feb. 7th, 2003 11:00 pmPan + alt.binaries.sounds.lossless = happy me. Leland, I guess you can have your copy of OKC back - I've got my own now. :D
Battlefield 1942 + 1.3 patch = fast loading and bad lag. Thought they were fixing the latter? Maybe it's just me.
That email I sent? Yeah, still trying to figure that one out. I'd like to get things replied this weekend, but I also happen to have 2 papers and a scholarship due next week. This does not a happy Jon make, but Jon is also paying for the priviledge (the school, not the email).
Speaking of payment, turns out I missed a little detail on that thar AA form and get to spend another quarter at EDCC picking up ONE social sciences course. Oh, joy. It'll be an online class I'll tell you that right now. What a horrendous waste of life. It's far too late to pull out of my history class so I guess I'll just finish it and maybe learn something. There's only one hard assignment left (sadly it's due very soon) so maybe I'll just sleep more in class now that it won't transfer and doesn't count. Heaven knows it's hard enough to stay awake for those 6-8pm classes.
It's mighty chilly outside (35F is cold in Seattle) but all that means to me is the fans down here are louder and everyone upstairs complains if I turn them off. Am beginning to wonder why I made my computer so quiet only to put it next to two house fans putting out 35+ dB all day long. To which the inevitable response is, "summer", though if I'm deaf in one ear by then it may not matter.
The reason the cold matters not is because I worked from home today, learning perl. Yes, perl. Next time I say my job is boring, remind me of the perks: sometimes I get to do actual programming. Our database software is such shit that in this case it is cheaper for me to learn a programming language to implement a solution than to do it any other way. (Well, I could do it in C++, but that might take longer than learning perl. It would certainly be more lines.) So it sums to a whole day at the computer. Wasted? I hope not. I got paid for some of it, and tried to do homework for the rest of it. Am finding myself driven to distraction in linux by the 101 ways to do any task, in addition to the growing library of software I need to do all the stuff I do in windows. Well, that and making mozilla pretty, but you know. I'm a tweaker. There's lots of stuff to tweak. Stand back and watch the productivity plummet!
Um, that's it. Don't expect me to come out and play this weekend. Am dreading the sheer volume of paper-writing ahead of me, but I suppose the thing to do is get interested and stop trying so hard. It was a big setback to learn that I won't be graduating, that just makes this quarter feel that much more like a rush toward the Big Nothing of education.
