Adventures in the mall
May. 8th, 2004 01:45 pmSo I had a mission: get new shoes. I had been given this mission by my old shoes, which had reached a decrepit 18 months of age without naming a sucessor. They were taking out their sorrow at the end of their line on my feet. Being forced to take the bus on sunny days makes for unhappy Jon, so a new pair was in order.
I expected terror and high prices, but I managed to score some very nice airwalks for half off. The saleslady was very courteous and helpful, too. Weird. I think I've been hanging out in thrift stores and coffehouses too much.
Anyway I was anticipating the remainder of the weekend to be filled with homework and being trapped inside, so I decided to check out the rest of the mall for the heck of it, maybe try out the new shoes in the process. I ended up looking for aluminum briefcases for a computer project I'm planning this summer, but was met with disappointment. Shopping online for these things is disheartening, they're all expensive executive toys. Finding something resembling a briefcase at a department store like Sears or Target is way harder than you would think. But I did find a nice messenger bag for my laptop. I absolutely love my backpack but there are some things it's not very good at, carrying a laptop is one of them. I'm generally opposed to messenger bags (unless you are an actual messenger) but this thing is made to hold laptops and does it pretty well. We'll see how well it works out, I guess.
So now that I'm back I gotta eat and run down to the labs to work on my group project with two newbies. Don't they know it's sunny out?
