And so another SLUG bites the dust.
It wasn't till the bachelor party on Monday that I realized the wedding was to be tonight. Had I made it a priority during the week I probably could've been more prepared for today, when I realized I was going to have to leave Bellingham around 2:00pm. Paul messaged me around 11:00 to talk about his performance, and I realized I was going to have to stop working and start packing. Cue a mad rush to sort through ALL my music in the apartment and all the clothes, cables, equipment, etc. I might need. But get out on time I did, and it turned out to be an important thing because I had to go home and pick up the remaining music and my tux, and the drive back north to Marysville only required second gear.
But arrive on time I did, the preparations went well, and things were looking all set until the fire alarm went off, prompting the coordinator to send everyone outside to think about what we'd done (or something). I'm sure it was just one of the groomsmen trying to buy James some time.
Anyway once we filed back into the very not burning opera house, the ceremony began and was wonderful. It was seriously one of the best ceremonies I've seen. Short, touching, and best of all it was a good friend making a loving commitment.
So then I had to keep nearly a hundred people entertained with music for a few hours, which I'm pretty good at but I was seriously unprepared for. I quickly realized that despite owning many months worth of CDs, I have very little in the way of "things people dance to at weddings," which made for a very stressful reception. Fortunately I had been reassured many times by James that the families involved were not really the crazy dance party type, so I needen't worry if the floor was clear most of the evening. Still, people come to weddings expecting to have a good time and playing a lot of dinner musicy-stuff wouldn't quite fill the need. I did what I could, and earned a few compliments, but I know I've done better and my dearest wish was to give James and Betsy my best. But I'm not kicking myself about it - I know it's certainly not on their minds right now.
And overall it was unremarkably good. Just a solid, well-executed wedding of two solid, good-living people. I wish them God's dearest blessings for all their years to come, and I should probably write a letter to them or something instead of putting it here.
In personal news, I totally bombed Wednesday's algorithms test due to a perfect storm of circumstances that precluded me studying. I don't know how I'm going to pull off a passing grade in this class considering it's only a month long, but at this point I pretty much have to because I NEVER want to take this class or study this material again.
