Midterm test this Wednesday. I am in no way prepared. Must be time for...

Lessons learned at college, part 2:
  • That class is boring, I know. Take notes anyway. You don't have to pay attention to what they say, just write shit down. When it comes time for the final you will quickly discover that what's in that textbook has little bearing to what your teacher taught and will test on. You're going to have to study SOMEthing, it might as well be exactly what was taught.
  • Eat every free meal you can. Dining services throws a lot of dinner parties, theme meals, etc that are often free. Bum guest meals off your friends (they'll enjoy the company). Food is expensive and it's always nice to not have to think about how empty your cupboards are when you need to eat.
  • If you dirty a utensil that everyone has to use (such as an ice cream scoop, or saucepan), wash it afterwards. Your roomates will get sick of doing your dishes real fast.
  • By the same token, when you do wash your dishes, try to actually get them clean. Just wiping the gunk off is not clean. Unless you really don't want other people using your dishes, in which case you'd better buy your own set anyway.
  • Picking your nose is an astonishingly gross habit. Don't do it in front of people, even if you think nobody's paying attention. I don't know why it might take someone until college to learn this, but I wouldn't mention it if I hadn't seen it.
  • If you're playing a computer game and there's other people in the room, use headphones. I don't care what you're playing, NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR IT. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THIS IS NOT HARD.
  • Fill your fruit drawer with actual fruit. Make sure it's empty by the end of the week. Refill drawer. Repeat.
  • Laptops are fuckin' great, but awfully expensive and typically underpowered. If you get one, make sure it's light enough to be comfortable to carry all over creation. They're also really hard to take notes on and extremely distracting in class.
  • Take your on-campus job just seriously enough to avoid being fired. If you're feeling unstressed and have lots of energy to spare, by all means have fun, but this won't be the case most of the time. Your supervisor probably doesn't expect the world out of you anyway.

Something bothering you? ;)

along the lines of #5, I was at a red light a number of weeks ago next to some Corporate America yuppie and looked over just in time to see him digging in his nose... with his CELL PHONE ANTENNA. If my window had been open I would have thrown my soda at him (which still remains a highly amusing fantasy in my mind) but yeah... there is no real point to my comment. :)

exactly. which would have made it ALL THE MORE FUN to throw a soda cup at his head because he *obviously* didn't notice me screaming "eeeeew" from my car and the whole catching him offguard would have been a beautiful kodak moment I could cherish for decades. [whistful sigh] Someday I'll become a famous writer and see a movie adaptation of the account. [crosses fingers] I should get back to work... I folded all my laundry, gave my winamp a heart attack earlier, and now I'm trying to smoke out my smelly neighbor with mass amounts of "Rain Goddess" incense. Hey, at least *one* of us smells pretty. :)

As to number one, I've found taking notes is an astonishingly good way to stay awake in an extremely boring class. Or a morning class. Or a post-lunch class when having eaten makes one sleepy.

And yes--teachers never quite seem to teach out of textbooks. I just study my notes before a test and do fine.

You're assuming that being awake is a positive thing. That's not necessarily the case.

I pick my nose all the time, in public, knowing full-well people are watching. I also pick wedgies. The shock value is amazing... I never get tired of it. Also, boogers have this wonderful salty-yet-gooey taste I just love.

You knew I would be eating while I read this, didn't you?! Now I'm not hungry...
