why I game
May. 6th, 2002 05:44 pmbecause the alternative is auto racing, which is hella dangerous.
In the news: I just witnessed an accident. 4:45pm, I'm driving home on the 148th overpass when a red s-10 comes skidding out of control in the opposite direction and heads to the side barrier. It strikes the barrier, bounces off and swerves around to hit it again. The driver then seemed to resume control and stopped the truck on my end of the overpass. She did not appear critically injured but we did not move her. She mentioned a "tingling" in her wrists which indicated potential neck/nerve injury. Another witness called for an ambulance and yet another attempted to comfort the driver, who was very distraught and in shock. The cops arrived within minutes and I wrote a statement. By the time I left an ambulance still had not arrived. The truck looked totaled. I have no idea what caused her to lose control, most likely it was the slippery conditions (it had hailed a few hours earlier).
If you could pray for this girl, I'd really appriciate it (and so would she). She may be injured in ways I don't know about, and - as I know all too well - she'll definitely be facing some monetary suckage for a while. There's very little good that typically comes out of stuff like this, and I hope and pray she'll be OK and make it through.
In so few instants your life is not what it was.
suddenly is sooner than you think
