So Jeremy switched guilds in EQ and now he plays till 9ish and STOPS. Then he calls his girlfriend and LEAVES THE ROOM.

BLISS.

Small victories, you know. Count those blessings.

I've spent the last 2 days solid making a horrid GUI app in Java/Swing. Not so much that the app turned out bad - it worked pretty good for a one-week assignment by a newbie - but the assignment was too much work for too little help. This was no hello, world app. We saw our first GUI hello world 2 weeks before this thing was due. Blechhh. I think possibly the worst part about it is that we're going to have to extend this thing for the final, which means I'm going to have to refactor the ENTIRE application into something extensible and un-terrible - something I won't mind spending another 2 weeks in. Chances I'll enjoy more java GUI work? Small indeed. It almost makes me miss MFC, which considering MFC is a clusterfuck orders of magnitude more hairy than Swing, is saying a lot. At least in MFC I know what I'm doing. Spending a quarter and a half on a GUI library is enough to get you comfortable attempting stuff, two weeks is enough to get you familiar with how much you don't know. It's made me and the class quite annoyed with our teacher, which is an accomplishment because he's a pretty damn good teacher, he's just not paying enough attention to what he's actually requiring of us. He thinks, "oh, 400-level course, they can handle this." No sir, we can't unless you teach us and keep pace. Don't assign us stuff and go to the Virgin Islands for a week (true story).

So today I've mostly played around with photoshop, watched TV, installed linux a couple times, and done stuff that wasn't hard work. I'll probably have a couple days of this before I have to get started on the last Scheme assignment which, like all Scheme programs, will be either very sensible and easy or impossibly hard.

I want summer so bad I can taste it.
