Things found in my top dresser drawer
Sep. 12th, 2004 07:01 pmSo despite my illness I drove home on Saturday to buy my new desk and pick up my dresser. I thought cleaning out the dresser wouldn't be any big deal, after all most of my clothes are up here anyway and I haven't used the dresser much. But I forgot about the top drawer.
Sometime in my early adolescence - probably 4th or 5th grade - I realized I'd run out of places to store tapes, so I converted the top drawer from underwear to cassettes. Over time, it became the place to put things that I never wanted to get rid of, small things I could put away and not worry about. In addition, my tape collection grew to easily 100 cassettes, filling the drawer in a loose pile of recorded radio, live shows, and albums copied from CD. These compiled many, many hours with my finger on the record button, many more hours listening to them when there was nothing on the radio, and not quite as many hours in the back seat on long car trips with nothing but my walkman to keep me company.
This post is not about those tapes. That's too large a topic and I've got too much to do today. This post is about the stuff I did not expect.
In more current news, I moved all the stuff that fits poorly in my car to the new apartment today, so no more comfy chair or big monitors around here. My new room is pretty tiny and my new desk is quite large, but hey, what else besides a desk, a dresser and a bed does one really need in their room? I have to take the van back down south on Tuesday, oh boy more driving. But I guess that'll be good impetus for me to move. It's really hard to justify moving to a place with no phone or internet. It's like going camping or something. I'll probably stay here till Thursday at the rate I'm going.
The rest of my night will be spent cleaning up the place, as they're going to inspect it tomorrow. :-/ Cameron also comes back tomorrow and will be moving into the new place. I'll probably be helping him move his couch and stuff from his girlfriend's place next door.

- All three years worth of my Voyager Middle School ID cards. I was one freaky 8th grader. 7th grade wasn't too hideous though.
- The Voyager ID of a kid named Christopher Robinson. I think the concept of someone who could possibly go by "Christopher Robin" amused me so much I thought I'd keep it. Never met him.
- Two $2 bills, both Series 1976. I think my dad has several more on his nightstand, which is probably why I kept these.
- $5 in G.I. Joe Combat Pay! It expired in 1991. :(
- Three frames of 70mm IMAX film, two from Helens and one of unkown origin (it has two Army helicopters on it). These are each nearly the size of my palm.
- A piece of printer paper with this site's address written on it. Bookmarks for those without a computer, I guess.
- A reciept from Universal Studios Hollywood for a Back to the Future keychain. The back is autographed by four people, the only one I can make out is Greg Long. While I assume it's a band, I have no clue who they might be or where I would've obtained the autographs, especially on such a random piece of paper.
- A CD slipcover from my dad's failed software reseller business.
- A 19th birthday card from Lindsey that I'd long since forgotten about. It was handwritten on a 3x5 because, as she wrote, "I'm too poor to buy you an actual birthday card, but I doubt you'll hold it against me." I certainly don't.
- Four one-day passports to Disneyland, dated September 10th, 1992. The child tickets were worth $23.00 each, the adults $28.75.
- A roll of film from our family vacation to Three Rivers, ID. We drove along the Columbia and stayed a night at Grand Coulee. We took the dam tour and stayed in our little trailer. There's also, randomly, a picture of my parents at Yellowstone. Actually I'm guessing this is not a continuous roll but instead a bunch of leftovers from the last time my mom sorted our photo albums. Most of them are pictures I actually took.
- A schedule I printed for Creation Festival at the Gorge, I'm not sure what year. It was the second time I went, and probably the best. I saw Five O'Clock People twice, P.O.D. before they got huge, Jars of Clay, who some reason I cannot remember actually seeing though I'm sure I went, and Chasing Furies, who I guess broke up sometime soon afterwards - good think I bought that album at the show. That's just a fraction of the shows I actually saw, but those jump to mind looking at this. This was also the year I drug around my boonie hat and had everyone in sight autograph it. It was a very good festival.
- $210 in cash that I'd completely forgotten about. BEST. FIND. EVER. I think this is left over from when Andy bought the LAN game server from me, though why it would be in that drawer I have no idea. I'm certainly thankful!
- A picture from a church waterskiing trip from many years ago, featuring, among others, a young Jeremy Truax.
- An invitation to Danielle Eichenberger's wedding. Note that the invitation did not arrive until after the wedding. I'm not quite sure why I got it.
