sun and wind
Jul. 13th, 2005 10:01 pmToday ended up being awesome. It's amazing what a trip to Lakewood can do for your day. For instance, before today, I didn't know that I couldn't sail with 3 inexperienced people. It's a lot harder than it seems, even on those little alphas. Lots of credit goes to the guy staffing the desk today, who took a tremendous amount of pity on us (not to mention my word at face value, even when we slammed the boat into docks 3 seperate times). I can sail, really, I just haven't done it by myself much. Ok, ever. Gotta learn sometime.
We quickly realized that sailing was not going to be in the cards for us today, despite the excellent weather for it, so we took the kayaks instead. They worked wonderfully and turned out to be an awful lot more fun than I anticipated. I could see doing that a lot, especially since it's such a fantastic workout. I also was lucky to be paired with Shannon who, it turns out, is an avid kayaker. Very good times.
We now have a MediaWiki install at work to centralize all our documentation. It's fantastic, unfortunately convincing our extraordinarily dense boss that we should organize our stuff the way wikis are supposed to be instead of how he wants it to be will take some work. ("Why don't we use namespaces for everything?") Josh had his one-on-one with Iain today and I guess it got pretty animated. This silly little wiki has brought a surprising number of issues to a head for him, so I'm curious what he'll have to say tomorrow.
The tide at work is changing, the new hires are pushing hard against the BS they encounter instead of putting up with it like the old guard did. I approve heartily of this change. Maybe someday our little department will be a nice place where things get accomplished.

captinspiration in September. But if he moves in, whose media center will we use?
