While the english haiku has traditionally been 5-7-5 to match the japanese syllable count, some believe that due to differences in language that english haiku in 3-5-3 would be more in the spirit of the original form. 5 syllables is a lot in english - easily 5 words - but in japanese you can say very little. I've wanted to try the form for a while and when I stumbled upon this 8-syllable phrase I wanted to keep, it seemed a natural fit.

that's super interesting! i like haiku... in fact it's generally the only kind of poetry i can write.

haiku is like the "snapshot" of the poetry world... which would explain why i like it, since photography is my visual art of choice.
